Reflections

1.Daniela: In this project I learned many things, some easier than others, but the best of all is the teaching and the experience that remains for us as students; First of all, I learned how to organize the elements that would be on the blog. In my case, I had to make the video and the images and it was something fun although I had to spend a few hours to be able to include the most important concepts. Something that would change? I think the only thing could be the use of the Blogspot platform, I think there are better platforms for example; Wix.

And as general knowledge about the chapter on language acquisition; I was able to learn the different stages in which children develop language as well as some theories that try to explain why language is creative. Also, I was able to read about the acquisition of a second language (as we students of the career of foreign languages) and I was able to understand that it is a totally different process because it took effort and dedication to be able to learn a second language, and we might not even speak it fully, because we have an accent or we can mispronounce some words.

2. Estefany Matute: What I liked about this project is that the topic could be developed in the various way we have seen in the class and all of them can make us understand the topic better than just reading the chapter itself. In contrast, I didn’t like that in the process of looking for the most relevant information that was asked, it was kind of difficult because it wasn’t in the pages assigned. I had to look for the key terms in other pages.

For doing this assignment, I learned to be more organize to develop a topic and to doing it using an outline format for a better understanding. About the topic, I learned that the language acquisition is one of the most impressive things humans have.  How we are born with the ability of acquiring every aspect of the language surrounding us, and how this ability doesn’t care about borders like being deaf. Our brain is capable to develop the stages of language acquisition in the same way as children that can hear. The reasons why it is easier for children to acquire a second language than an adult, it is because as children they are in the process of acquiring all the knowledge of the language or languages in their environment, but the adults had already passed these stages. It is not impossible, but it will be difficult. I would change the way of doing the semantic map because there weren’t enough relevant terms to fill the requirement, or just do a semantic map with the terms depending on the topic. Lastly, I will suggest to not putting a limit of words for the summary because most of the time this limit the developing of the topic.

Gaby Lopez: This project was a new experience for me, because I had never done a blog, but in the end, I realized that it is not very difficult to work on it. Something that I liked was the way we work as a team, we all work in the same way and no one felt that it was frustrating, however there were tedious things like looking for specific concepts to understand the topic of language acquisition.

As a general knowledge about Chapter 9, I learned the process of language acquisition, as human beings gradually develop the language until we reach a point where we are able to learn a second language, and even deaf people learn from it. same way as an ordinary child. I really liked this topic because we know new concepts and theories that will help us expand our knowledge

Cindy MartinezIn most cases, doing a blog is limited to the exposition of a topic in the form of an essay or just paragraphs in an expository manner. However this blog was different and during the process, although in some cases it was challenging, in the end the results were satisfactory. What I love about this blog is the way in which a single topic can be presented, offering more than one learning option for those who take a look at the blog. However, something I did not like is that chapter 9 left the topic incomplete, making us have to look in other chapters to present our topic in a clear, understandable and complete way. Finally, even though I really liked the idea of this blog, I think we should have more options to do the assignments like videos, presentations or semantic maps, because the imposition of some tools can limit our creativity.

About the topic itself I found the process of language acquisition a fascinating topic, during many chapters we have seen different elements of language once it has been acquired, in this chapter I was able to learn how the process works from scratch for a baby who is exposed to language to the process of acquiring a second language even in the adult stage, like ours.
